ALGON wants Imo governor to comply with Appeal Court judgment

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has called on Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo to comply with the Appeal Court judgment which returned council chairmen sacked by him. In a communiqué issued in Enugu after its three-day National Conference, the association regretted that the Imo government was yet to comply with the judgment.
It threatened to use all legitimate means to ensure that the governor obeyed the court judgment.
The association also amended its constitution with a resolution that the office of its national president should oscillate between the north and south of the country.
It also resolved that the tenure of the national president should be a single term of three years.
The communiqué also said the chairman of the association’s board of trustees should not come from the same zone with the national president and should also serve a renewable term of three years.
It increased the membership of the board to two from each of the six geo-political zones.
The association also resolved that their members should enjoy pension benefits as being paid to the heads of other tiers of the government.
