Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Wednesday said that the first
set of new markets being constructed by his administration
in Ibadan would be ready in the next three months.
Ajimobi, who announced this while receiving the Chairman of Wemabod
Estates Limited, Dr Ismail Adewusi and other board members on a courtesy
visit, said the second phase would begin immediately after the first
one.
You will recalled that the government had
embarked on the construction of new markets in some areas in Ibadan to
relocate traders who were affected by the recent demolition of illegal
structures.
The markets will be located at both sides of the old toll gate at the
Ibadan end of Lagos-Ibadan Express Road, Temidire Market, New Ife Road,
Scout Camp, Challenge, Samonda, adjacent to Oyo State Trade Fair
Complex and others.
The governor said that sites had also been found in other towns like
Oyo, Ogbomoso, Iseyin and Saki for the construction of markets to ease
the traders' hardships.
He expressed commitment to massive infrastructure development
and urged Wemabod Estates to cooperate with government through a public
private partnership arrangement in the construction of the market.
Ajimobi said that government was ready to partner with Wemabod
Estates, owned by the O’dua conglomerate, in the planned construction of
new motor parks and development of a new reserved area at Idi-Ishin,
Ibadan.
``Now that we have succeeded in achieving peaceful, safe and secured
environment, the next on our agenda is massive infrastructure
development and we are committed to achieving this within the shortest
possible time,’’ the governor said.
Responding, Dr Adewusi said that the company had shifted from its old
pedestrian commitment to property development and facility management.
He commended the governor for his achievements in the areas of
education, health, social infrastructure, peace and harmony in the
state.
